What Does Your Ward Study To Become A ‘Qualified’ Homoeopath?

According to WHO Homoeopathy is the second largest system of medicine used worldwide and this system of medicine is recognised and promoted by all prominent world bodies, governments, faculties & organisations.

In order to become a QUALIFIED Homoeopath one has to study an under graduate course – Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) and can then pursue higher studies – Doctor of Medicine In Homoeopathy [MD (Hom)] & Doctor of Philosophy In Homoeopathy [Ph.D (Hom)].

Bachelor Of Homoeopathic Medicine And Surgery (BHMS)

BHMS is a degree course which comprises of 5 and ½ years and the study comprise of the basic medical science subjects which are “in par with the main stream medicine or ALLOPATHY” along with the homoeopathic subjects. This course also has a one year of CRRI (internship) included in the 5 and ½ year of the study course.

The subject of study for undergraduate students studying BHMS includes preclinical subjects like ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY, PATHOLOGY including MICROBIOLOGY & PARASITOLOGY, FORENSIC MEDICINE including TOXICOLOGY and clinical subjects like SURGERY including ORTHOPAEDICS, ENT & OPHTHALMOLOGY, GYNAECOLOGY and OBSTERTICS, PRACTICE OF MEDICINE including PAEDIATRICS & PSYCHIATRY and COMMUNITY MEDICINE. The Homoeopathic subjects like the HOMOEOPATHIC PHARMACY, ORGANON OF MEDICINE, HOMOEOPATHIC MATERIA MEDICA and REPERTORY are taught along with the pre clinical and clinical subjects.

The Subjects Taught Year Wise are:

I BHMS – Anatomy, Physiology, Homoeopathic Pharmacy, Homoeopathic Materia Medica and Organon of Medicine.

II BHMS – Pathology including Microbiology & Parasitology, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Homoeopathic Materia Medica, Organon of Medicine, Surgery and Gynaecology & Obstetrics.

III BHMS – Surgery including Orthopaedics, ENT & Ophthalmology along with clinical training, Gynaecology & Obstetrics along with clinical training, Homoeopathic Materia Medica, Organon of Medicine, Practice of Medicine, Repertory and Community Medicine.

IV BHMS – Practice of Medicine including Paediatrics & Psychiatry along with clinical training, Homoeopathic Materia Medica, Organon of Medicine, Case Taking & Repertorisation and Community Medicine.

CRRI – Our Interns are posted in different OPDs & IPDs for clinical trainings. They are also posted in the following Government Hospital & Multi Speciality Hospital on rotation basis.

Homoeopathic doctors who complete the prescribed course successfully are qualified and eligible in all aspect to handle and treat patients with diseases which fall under the scope of homoeopathy and to perform the needed INVESTIGATIONS & EXAMINATIONS required. They are also eligible and qualified to do MINOR SURGERIES like excision, incision and drainage, suturing, dressings etc as like any other doctors of the mainstream medicine or Allopathy.
